Clock Tower: The First Fear:

Disclaimer: I do not own any Clock Tower related properties. Clock Tower is the property of Human Entertainment and Sunsoft. This is a fan work created to celebrate the opus. It is not intended to infringe on any copyrights.

Preface

I'm writing this fanfic simply because there just aren't that many good fan novelizations of this game on the web. So sit back and enjoy as I retell the story Clock Tower: The First Fear.

Now, this is going to be fairly short story, and updates will come when they come, as I have another fanfic that takes priority over this until I've completed it. But the updates will come.

This fic will be rated M for graphic violence, frightening scenes, some swearing, and disturbing content. In others words, for being as much like the original game as I can get it.

Prologue

September 3rd, 1995

"Nicolai Dmit….Dmi…Ditrievich…" Jennifer read off the page.

"Dmitrievich," Lotte corrected.

"Right, Dmitrievich, sorry," Jennifer giggled.

"It's alright. I know reading can be tough for you," Lotte said easily.

"No kidding," Jennifer muttered.

Jennifer rubbed her brown eyes.

"Can we take a break for a while?" She asked. "The letters are already starting to spin."

"Mmm… There's only three more pages in this chapter. How about we just finish this up and you can rest your eyes, then."

"Do I have to?" Jennifer asked, intentionally childishly.

She ruffled Lotte's short, red hair playfully.

"Hey!" Lotte said, batting her friends' hands away.

She straightened up her 'do again before answering.

"Yes, you have to," Lotte answered seriously. "You're never going to overcome it by giving up every time things gets hard. Besides, our report on Part 1 is due this Friday. We don't have time to mess around."

"I know…but books are difficult," Jennifer said, reluctantly.

The girl with dark hair that almost black turned her brown eyes back to the book and continued reading, struggling through the remainder of the page. In about seven minutes and a few more corrections from her friend, she completed it and Lotte took over for the next page, going through it in a mere couple minutes.

"How are you so good at reading, Lotte?" Jennifer asked.

"Practice," Lotte answered.

Lotte repositioned herself into a more comfortable spot sitting on the end of the bed both teen girls were using while reading through the book continued.

They were interrupted by a knock at the door.

"Come in!" Jennifer called pleasantly.

A girl with long, blonde hair and blue eyes who was around their age poked her head into the room.

"Hi!" she said.

"Well, hi, Laura. What're you here for?" Lotte asked.

"Anne wants to know if you two are interested in coming outside. We're setting up for a baseball game and need two more people. Anne sent me up to find anyone I could get," Laura answered.

"In a minute. Lotte and I are just wrapping some school work," Jenifer answered.

"Alright. I'll tell Ann. Just be quick. You know she's never been very…patient," Laura answered politely and then left alone again.

Laura walked down the hall of the orphanage passing by the head office as she reached the stairs. The door was open and she glanced inside, seeing movement out of the corner of her eye.

"Oh, Miss Mary and some man are talking with Director Eriksen," she thought.

Her curiosity was briefly piqued, but she thought better of the notion and hurried down the stairs. Laura never did like Miss Mary. There was just something wrong with that woman.

C

"Four?" The Director asked, somewhat dubiously.

"Yes, we wish to give four girls from this orphanage a proper home and a chance at a good life," Mr. Barrows confirmed. "My wife has told me all about the children of this facility. They're good kids and they all deserve a chance to be taken into a family that will treat them as their own. And we…"

He stopped and reached over to the arm of the chair next to his and squeezed his wife's hand. The Director leaned forward, resting her wrinkled, aged chin on bony fingers.

"We have none of our own. I think it's a perfect match. We're parents without a child to call our own, and they're children without a mother and father. We'll be a perfect fit, I promise you. As you can see from the information we've supplied, we're quite capable of caring for them properly," he said.

"Well, there's nothing illegal about adopting up to four children, or even more, but it's such an unusual, and you've never been parents before," Director Eriksen said.

"Perhaps not Simon alone, Miss Scarlett," Mary Barrows spoke up. "But I've been working with children of all ages for 12 years now. I'm quite confident with my ability as a mother and I'm more than capable of training my husband."

Mary added a bit of a humor in her tone to those last few words, to which Simon Barrows smirked.

The Director looked over the paperwork one more time.

"Well, I still have my doubts about this, but everything checks out. Very well. I will arrange the interviews immediately," The Director said.

Mary and Simon smiled broadly and deliberately one final time.

"But first, what kind of place is The Barrows Mansion, anyway?" The Director asked.

"Oh, it's a lovely place out in the woods. Plenty of space, a protective iron fence around the property to keep wild animals out. You'd know it better as The Clock Tower," Mary replied.

"Oh, yes! I know the place now," The Director said. "I often see that old tower just looming over the trees at night like some kind of sentinel."

Simon chuckled heartily.

"We've the same thing many times. People are always shocked when we say we live there. We always get questions about whether or not it's really haunted," Simon said with a laugh.

"My husband always invites them to spend the night and find out for themselves," Mary said.

She gave him a playful nudge with her elbow.

"Never once has anyone have the nerve to accept the challenge, though," she said.
Four orphans are adopted by a wealthy family to come live with them. Everything seems perfect. A great big mansion to live in, high end schools promised, and successful careers ensured, but are some things just too good to be true? A shadow looming over the home says, 'Yes'. Please R&R.
